Eco-Friendly Options & Explanations

  • Reclaimed materials such as barn board salvaged from collapsed barns and 100 year old maple floorboards salvaged from renovated houses.

Reclaimed materials are one of the newest ways to be earth-friendly. We love the challenge of using reclaimed materials as well as the rich and unique outcome of the finished pieces. Visit our Eco-Friendly Gallery to see how we’ve used both of the above in past projects to create custom pieces for satisfied customers.

  • Traditional Hardwoods harvested from sustainably managed forests.

What makes a forest “sustainable”? Humans working with nature to ensure the future of the nation's forests for generations to come. The Sustainable Forestry Initiative Program is based on the premise that responsible environmental practices and sound business practices can be integrated to the benefit of landowners, shareholders, customers and the people they serve. We couldn’t agree more. Please follow this link for more information on FSC and SFI

  • German Beech, and Lyptus—new species of hardwoods

These newer hardwoods have the same beautiful qualities of traditional North American Hardwoods but are harvested from more plentiful sources and are more easily renewable. Example 1  Example 2

  • Wheat Fiber board —a replacement for traditionally made particleboards.

Made from an abundant, annually renewable resource – wheat straw—Wheatboard is manufactured using polyurethane resin as a binder, in place of the conventional formaldehyde binders found in many competitive fiberboard products. The result is a strong, smooth and lightweight finished fiberboard that’s high quality, cost-effective and eco-friendly.

Click on this link for a photo of a kitchen we recently built using Wheatboard veneered with Cherry wood. It was a creative solution that provided the beautiful look of a cherry kitchen made from an 80% rapidly renewable resource—wheat.

Wheatboard also stains and finishes beautifully and we have used it in commercial applications such as in an Outpost Natural Foods store in Milwaukee, WI. Please click here for a photo.
